Frances in Germany

I studied for a little over one year in Paderborn Germany, from July 2005 to August 2006. These are my accounts of life in Germany. Enjoy the mishaps, spaniards, and super bees, I sure did!

Bonn: The Ex-Capital of West Germany

Bonn Cathedral

So we took a day trip to Bonn. By “we” I mean several students on an organized trip. What to say about Bonn…well, there’s not much. Bonn was an old Roman outpost along the Rhine River Some of the soldiers were Christian and were killed because of it. For a while, there was a grave yard where they were killed, then a little church next to it. Then it grew into a bigger church, then a cathedral which took over the whole space that was once the graveyard. Now the remains of the martyrs are entombed in the cathedral. The city of BonnCologne (actually they were angry because they couldn’t have there way and went to Bonn, very prince like). There’s the old town hall which is pink to be seen and there is the birthplace of Beethoven too. Bonn was made the Capital of West Germany because there really was nothing of interest there. Though I must admit, the tour of the modern German history museum was really was interesting, even if it had very little to do with the city of Bonn at all. But it was Germany’s history for the last 60 years or so. I enjoyed that. If my brother comes to visit me, I’ll probably take him to the museum. But honestly, people, I was not all that impressed with the city itself, just the museum. back in the day. grew up around the cathedral and drew a few princes away from
